The Pursuit of Peace

Updated: Mar 17, 2022

[Dear Reader, this is a piece of writing, one of my scribbled down musings that I found in my drawer while tidying up the other day. I thought perhaps you might find it helpful in understanding the dance between the heart and the mind. And also, more importantly, that in navigating life, we are all more similar at our core than we dare to imagine or possibly care to remember. Wishing you Peace.]

“Only from the heart, can you touch the sky.“ - Rumi

I learned this the hard way.

And many times over and over.

I used to judge myself puzzled at needing the same lesson to repeat over and over for me to ‘get it’.

But now I realise it was a necessary part of my journey to becoming who I am now. To deepening my understanding. Deepening my appreciation. Expanding my Spirit.

Isn’t it strange how when it comes to the big melting pot of emotions swimming in our hearts our brain runs amuck?

The brain can freeze. It can panic. It can create havoc that doesn’t even exist. Wildly throwing thoughts around.

The brain and the heart oftentimes speak a different language.

What the heart wants, the brain often says ‘NO! It can’t be done!’

What the brain logically decides is the right path, the heart can say, ‘help me! I’m afraid!’

Typically when an event or circumstance pushes you past your pain threshold and gives you a giant ethereal punch in the guts and body-slam of a reality check, that’s when you come to terms with the facts.

You realise you need to enroll in language classes. What? How does that even make sense?

It is the most important language you will ever learn in your life.

It will enable you to not only care for yourself better, but also care for others too.

The language of Emotional IQ. Emotional Processing. Core belief work. Shadow work. Any work that helps you truly understand the layers of yourself, in the context of your past history, present circumstances and where you wish to go.

If your mind and heart constantly butt heads, good luck. You’ll end up with a lifetime of headaches.

I’ve been there plenty a time. Until my head and heart hurt so much I had no other choice but to see my reflection in the mirror and have a solid word with myself repeatedly until I elevated, upgraded, improved, mastered, consolidated and integrated. Years in the Making. Kind of like a really long military bootcamp of Self.

Am I embarrassed to say such a thing? Absolutely not.

This is called The Human Experience, The Tapestry of Life and ultimately Acceptance of Self.

No frills. No edits. Standing in one's Power. It's beautiful, refreshing, highly recommended.

It isn’t easy, but it is oh so necessary. I suspect it is for a lot of us. It’s called Evolution.

(This is what CBT also helps with).

Humanity improves when we sit in a place of authenticity, softness, compassion, understanding, and leading with our hearts without fear in the way.

Teaching the brain how to channel its power in a beneficial, supportive, constructive manner. Quietening the mind. Tuning into our inner voice.

Guiding the heart and the mind to dance together in synchrony, in harmony.

Emotional Intelligence is the most important language you will ever learn. And with practise, one day, your heart and mind will become one, cradled in your Spirit.

Is this the pursuit of happiness? My belief is happiness is an ever-fluctuating state often mistakenly borne of social constructs.

I like to think of this as the Pursuit of Peace, inevitably leading to the Attainment of Peace.

In essence, that's truly what the world is constantly searching for and is all the better for.

Learn the steps. Don't let it pass you by.
